Was invited to Salim’s house to meet his family and have some lunch. Years ago
I saw the plot of land, before Salim started to build there. I remember him telling
me then where the guest room would be and how he would have fruit trees in the
garden. Well it all came true, and more importantly it’s become home to a lovely
and happy family. Salma his wife is at home these days because "she cannot find
a maid" although I think being a mum is quite important too, so perhaps she’s
given up on going back to work in her uncle’s pharmacy. The kids are turning out
very nicely – Sofaa is 7 now (I remember holding her when she was just a few months
old), Salman must be about 4 and looks so cute. Baby brother Salleh is just recovering
from malaria – poor thing. The garden too is maturing nicely. As you walk along
one flowerbed there’s paw paw, guava, passion fruit, lemongrass, custard apple,
lime, pomegranate, orange, banana and coconut – a mini "spice tour" no less.
