Went
to Mercury’s for sundowners on Friday evening – met colleagues and friends – carried
on with the beers way past the afterglow – remembered it was a Larium day so ordered
one of their excellent pizzas (Larium’s not good on an empty stomach). By 9pm
I was ready to go. I paid my share of the bill and thought I put my wallet into
my basket. However I realise now I must have missed the basket and dropped it
on the floor (it was very dark). I popped home and then into the office. After
about half an hour I realised it was missing. The next day I went through the
practical motions of ringing around and natural emotions of denial, anger, grief,
etc. I’ve finally reached acceptance. Fortunately there was nothing personal in
it – so it was just the monetary loss. I had a US$50 note that I was planning
on giving to Wahid and about TSH20,000 (US$20) so altogether an expensive lesson;
thankfully not as disastrous as losing tickets, passports, or big money!!!
