Kadugli and Dilling Wedding Feast Tue 16 Nov 2004

Tue 16 Nov

Adam, at home in Dilling
Adam had two weddings lined up; both in El Obied. He suggested we went to his nephew's today which would be a normal Muslim affair, and stay over for his cousin's the following day which was likely to be more traditional. Having journeyed to Dilling especially for harvest time, wrestling competitions and traditional dancing, it seemed a waste to me to leave the area for the nearest city. But he was my host after all.

The wedding was fine, and the people generous. I got a proper meal and lots of old-timers wanted to talk about the old times and present day politics. It was a typical Muslim, towny affair - similar to what you can experience in Timbuktu or Zanzibar.

Thankfully we decided to return to Dilling that evening and the second wedding was conveniently forgotten. On the way home I got a chance to photograph some more folk travelling with camels - this time at sunset.
