It's pouring with rain here this morning, so much so that I read my book for an
hour before leaving the house. When I did venture out I made my way to a cafe
for chapatti and chai as I hadn't bought bread the night before and it was drier
to eat there than take it home again. Afterwards I went to the shoe repairer who
was supposed to be gluing my other Teva but disappointingly he hadn't started.
The rain has an interesting affect here; it's normally short so people quite understandably
delay their journey. People would think nothing of arriving for work one and a
half hours late "because it was raining". Going through the streets
is a challenge too. I wore my flip-flops rather than my new leather sandals or
my suede safari boots. The narrow lanes turn to streams at such times, although
fresh running water could be refreshing, as it flows down the street you're never
sure what you're walking in. The choice is simple you can walk in the middle of
the alley where the water is deepest and the rain is heavier or keep to the sides
where the corrugated roofs high above drop their water like a curtain.
