Week 2 - Kikoi

When I moved into my room, along with a 2nd set of bedding, Salim had given me a kikoi which is the Swahili equivalent to cravat and silk dressing gown (ie indoor use only). It's basically a wrap around skirt for men although this one was curiously different because it was sewn-up the side. This means I step into it and then collect the excess waistband and tuck it in. Great for sitting at home watching video, reading in bed and also for sleeping in (it's too warm for bed covers). In the early hours of the morning when it's cooler I have discovered the kikoi's second use as a bottomless, half length, sheet sleeping bag. Excellent piece of kit. No man (in a hot climate) should be without one.
