Week 2 - Wahid

Wahid collected me from work and took me home on his scooter. When you leave the tarmac and start drving through the dirt tracks of the township grid system it all begins to look much the same. Most buildings look unfinished and I guess most of them arn't. Then, after 5 minutes and a lot of dust behind one's contact lenses you come to a painted bungalow with a few trees. This is Wahid's home were he lives with his sister, wife and daughter of 1 year. Their front room is carpeted, with 2 sofas and 2 armchairs (curiously all along one wall). At the end of the room is an elaborate, grossly ornamental, hifi/tv unit and behind it a fluorescent strip light. Very clean and tidy. For the first lesson we talked a lot, I guess he's trying to judge my level. Unhelpfully, I thought, Mohammed turned up and wanted to test me too. Wahid was very patient. Eventually cake and fruit juice was served and soon after, another scooter ride back into town.
