Napier Trek - Getting started |
Thu 13 Nov
I went up to Piazza district of Addis with Mark and Michelle for breakfast,
found
a
nice
café doing
croissants and wonderful fruit juices, then bought a few essentials and returned
to
the hotel. Within minutes Solomon arrived with Oliver another walking companion
who
had kindly brought out for me 15kg of trekking gear.
I spent an hour or so unpacking and re-packing for the trek, then had an early
lunch before setting off to the airport for the afternoon flight to Mekele.
We were soon on the "Great North Road" albeit in a southerly direction and after a three to four hour drive, firstly on good road, then on rough dirt we reached our camp. We were introduced to our crew for the next two weeks including "China" our cook, complete with chef’s outfit. Supper was ready and soon we were establishing our overnight rituals of unrolling sleeping bags and crouching in the shadows.
