Baggara Bowl
Baggara Bowl
In the morning I pop into town and buy a large wooden bowl. I first saw it a few days ago and resisted the temptation to buy it then, but of course I've already started regretting it and the feeling will get worse once I'm away from El Obied. I think it has been made recently (ie it's no antique), and blackened in a fire; certainly a lot of soot comes off on my hands. Apparently it is what the Baggara (an Arab tribe) use to serve asida (doughy porridge).

I pay about US$6 - I've no idea if this is a fair price - it would be expensive for locals but I can't bear the thought of leaving it behind.
