Today the wind is up and the sky is grey with dust. It gets behind the lenses. It gets everywhere. Even here indoors there's a fine layer of grit. Suddenly I am missing a lazy Saturday morning in north London with newspapers, croissants and an enormous jug of coffee. The sand is blowing through like clouds of smoke, at times visibility is down to 50m. It ought to be wintry but in fact it is quite warm (perhaps low thirties). I want to stay in and watch movies, read books, practice Arabic script, eat, and watch TV again … this is more like Christmas than Christmas.
