No first lecture, excellent; a lie in. Unfortunately, now I'm the only guest at the guesthouse, Mohammed who is on overnight duty is sitting outside, his chair carefully positioned to catch sight of my bedroom door. He leaps into action. I'm only going to the loo. OK, maybe it is time to shower and put my lenses in. I get dressed and cross the yard to the common room.

The "first thing" tea tray is waiting for me. A flask of one time hot water, a box of Lipton tea bags, a bowl of sugar and my recent addition and contribution a box of karkaday tea bags. I bring with me my shortwave radio and a press cutting giving further details of the Peace Agreement.

I listen to the BBC World Service. I scribble corrections, explanations and unfortunately further questions. I sip karkaday.

At 9:50am Mohammed subtly asks what time I would like breakfast. I suggest 10am. He's delighted. Shortly after I hear the sizzle of eggs.

It comes with local bread and a plate of feta cheese. Today we have a guest appearance of the red-coloured fruit jam. The guesthouse staff are very keen and very well meaning but it gets a little boring having egg and cheese at every meal. I hand the plate of cheese back and suggest lunch or supper.
