Week 7 - Saba Saba

<<prev next>>

Today is a public holiday. Saba Saba (literally 7/7) is Peasants’ day; nice to give them a day off.

Did chores this morning like updating notice boards (we have 7 around Stone Town). In the afternoon I wondered through Daranjani street market. It was quite quiet but I did manage to change my Kilimanjaro trousers for a size bigger (I needed the length).

Later went to the football yet again. This time I walked there and paid for my own ticket. I realise I particularly enjoy this because it’s fun to watch and there’s a nice including-attitude from the crowd. It’s also a lovely time of day – starting off hot enough to consider wearing a hat, then the shadows get longer, and the light gets softer, and by the end you’re hoping the ref will blow his whistle soon otherwise you’ll be walking home in the dark. Oh yes, also quite like octopus and cassava at half time too.
