Friendship Hall Katy for Company Thu 17 Mar 2005

Thu 17 Mar

I meet Katy again at the French Cultural Centre. Hey, it will be great if this becomes a regular thing. I like Katy almost as much as I like films; to escape to a cinema under a starlit African sky is divine. We are expecting to see a film about West Africa but instead it is a Mollière dramatisation. Katy kindly gives me a few plot updates but it's as much as I can do to pick out familiar vocabulary. We leave before the end and head for a party in a posh suburb - conveniently for both of us - near the airport.

A former volunteer Paul is returning to Sudan tonight on the same flight as my friend David, so Katy and a few friends make sure we are at the airport to greet them (despite it being 1:30am). In the end there are enough of us for Shuhada to fill the microbus I've hired to collect David.

Going straight to bed would have been too intelligent. Instead we sit around, drinking Karkaday and getting to know each other; finally "hitting the hay" at 4:30am. Good job we hadn't opted for the 7am coach ride to Karima.
