In the afternoon I meet Mango Juice Girl; secretly as arranged. We sit by the river and talk for ages, then we walk across the bridge to Bahri to get some ice-cream. It turns out there is nowhere there to eat so we decide to go back to the flat where at least there is a bowl and some spoons; easier said than done. The rush-hour traffic would have none of it.
Back at the flat I introduce Mango Juice Girl to Margie and Cleo. I hope arriving with ice cream will be a suitable distraction but accompanied by a young lady who promptly removes her headscarf definitely arouses curiosity. She is quiet in their company but after the girls go out she seems perfectly at ease and readily helps me to decipher the saucy song lyrics of Nancy Ajram.
