Back in the market we feast on fish; small, fresh ones from the lake. Then after another prayer we start to walk towards the edge of town - but it is no good, it is too far and Omer wants to cover several different directions. He decides we should return to the central market and hire a Land Rover to take us around. The thought of a Land Rover persuades me but in the event we end up with a hatchback. Still, it is a good idea; we whiz around.

On the way back to town we stop at a sesame oil "factory". It's very interesting. They use a wood boiler for making steam which I guess is to soften the seeds and diesel generators to power the presses which mince and squeeze them shedding oil and leaving dry crusty "biscuits" which go into animal feed.

They produce 500 litres per day and employ 60 staff in three shifts, seven days a week. The oil goes to Kordofan, Darfur, Khartoum and for export.
