Khushi - Best of Bollywood
Khushi - Best of Bollywood
Back at the 1955 open-air cinema the Bollywood romance "Khushi" has already been running for 30 minutes. Mohammed Ali, the manager's assistant finds me a good seat and offers me a drink. He also asks if I am cold (which I am) though I tell him I'm not. His question leaves me intrigued as to what he would have done if I'd said yes.

The film is immensely satisfying; possibly because it is from a very different culture. It's an escape from Sudan and its conservative values. The story is essentially Romeo and Juliet with a few unrelated dream sequences amounting to pop videos featuring the same actors. Unusually, there are no ridiculous fight scenes or massed dance sequences.
