Tue 11 Jan My students are fine. So far I've seen two classes and we're having a lot of fun. I seem to be able to draw out the sense of humour in people. I also have a few discussion groups, a lecture and an evening class lined-up so that will keep me out of mischief.
Good news at the guesthouse (perhaps the quiet word with Salah did the trick?) Evidently the director has decreed I should have a room of my own; at least whenever possible. To celebrate I go and buy some speakers for my CD player - best US$10 I've ever spent. It seems that my accommodation includes three meals a day, which makes me, feel lazy and ever so slightly out of control. In the afternoon I'm expected at the "English Society" on another campus. Kindly, they send a car to collect me, but I discover as I enter the lecture theatre that I am actually presenting it and what I thought would be a group discussion has grown to an "audience" of 250 people. Remarkably, I manage to talk about "National Unity in the face of Cultural Diversity" for 90 minutes with only the minimum of hesitation, repetition, or deviation.
