Zambia - Falls From A Height

I realised later from hearing of other people’s experiences that the fact that this was my first helicopter ride had completely passed me by – as far as I was concerned it was simply a means of getting some great aerial views – I guess I’ve done enough flying not to be scared of looking out the window. The flight cost US$85 for 15 minutes but it was a way of seeing the falls from the Zimbabwe side too (which would have cost me US$65) and it was also a fantastic opportunity to see the size of this natural wonder all at once. Seeing a submerged pod of hippos and a family of elephants swimming across the Zambezi was simply a bonus.

That evening the reunion party continued with a "brai" (barbeque) but it has to be said that everyone was much quieter than the evening before!

Sun 28 Sep
I returned to the falls once again to enjoy the early morning light, had breakfast, popped back to the internet café where I copied photos onto CD then back for one last refreshing dip in the pool before waiting: packed, dressed and ready for Heather (who’d organised the weekend) and had kindly offered to give me a lift. As we drove up to Lusaka we passed through former colonial towns with magnificent avenues of purple-blue flowering jacaranda trees.
